Prayer and Meditation C – A Child’s Perspective of the Lord’s Prayer
I wish to make this from the perspective of a child.
Our Father Who Art In Heaven -
- We are your children. We cry Abba Father. We look to you now as we do to our parents or guardians. They are so much bigger and stronger than us and yet they can be gentle, caring and giving. O heavenly Father, you are much more gentle, caring and giving! You are love!
Hallowed Be Thy Name -
- As your children we share your name and are proud of you and desire to uphold your name and reputation as we would our family name – as we represent you to the world around us.
- What’s in a name? Well it’s our personality, our word and history, among other things. God, you are named by what you do, such as; the Lord who heals us, the Lord who is with us, the Lord who goes before us, and the Lord who is our Shepherd.
Thy Kingdom Come-
Father, dear Father this world is in trouble and has been for a long long time. What will be passed on to the generations to come? You promised in Matthew 24:22 that you would prevent the extinction of all life by bringing the Kingdom of God to earth (cutting short the time of trouble). May it come soon – before it is too late..
Thy Will Be Done On Earth As It Is In Heaven -
John 3:16 says ” For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, – but have everlasting life”. It is your desire that all people should hear about your plan of salvation and believe it, so you commissioned your church people to preach that good news in all the world. May we all do your will here and now, – by living your way of love..
Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread -
As babies and children, we cry out to our mothers when we are hungry and thirsty. Our souls cry out to our spiritual mother, the church; and you, Father, because we hunger for spiritual food and support. You say ”Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness will be satisfied” (in Matthew 5:6).
-How happy parents must be to see us children begin to share with them and our sibblings and friends. Father, you must be pleased when your children (of all ages) are caring and sharing and loving.
And Forgive Us Our Debts As We Forgive Our Debtors -
We have all been naughty children at times , and have wanted our own way and have disregarded your wise advice such as in the Psalms and Proverbs – please forgive us. Help us to forgive others who hurt us – after you have helped us to heal from the hurt.
Lead Us Not Into Temptation -
We know that you don’t tempt anyone, but we need you to keep us from falling for temptations, especially the temptation to give up our faith when we suffer opposition from peer pressure or even bullying.
But Deliver Us From Evil -
Father please keep us from the evil one and his ‘me-first’ way of thinking, and protect us from harm by lawless people.
For Thine Is The Kingdom, The Power and The Glory Forever and Ever.
You are the king over my life and over the Kingdom of God, which includes the whole universe – and for all eternity. You have all the power and all the glory. Father, please give us the power to do your will in our lives so others may be blessed and give glory and thanks to you.
Amen. – So be it.
