A Personal Parable

My Pastor asked the congregation to write a personal parable, so mine is as follows.

A sower went out to seed his field.

Some seed fell on the footpath at the edge of the field, and the birds ate it. The next year the landowner decided to plow up the footpath in order to increase his harvest. Only a little increase occurred, so he decided to plow again and apply some natural fertilizer. In this way he redeemed the path and added many plants with their kernels of grain to the harvest.

Looking back at my church experience, I believe I was living on the fringe of the Christian community in a small sect/cult for about 20 years, and not taking root or producing fruit of the Spirit. My heart was like the footpath,  because I was relying on the human strength and abilities that I was born with. Over the years life happens and I began to realize my need for God, after he began to “plow and fertilize” me; which led me to see my need for his help in all things spiritual. I began to “Ask, Seek and Knock” in order to cultivate a loving relationship with Jesus.
