Ambassadors For Jesus  mp3- Listen

2 Corinthians 5:20 says,  “We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: ‘we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God’.” – (WEB throughout)

In John 18:36 Jesus was speaking to Pontius Pilate,Jesus answered, ‘My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.’ ”

Jesus is the king of the Kingdom of God, which actually is supreme over all the nations on earth. However the governments of this world have not yet been placed directly on his shoulders. But he is calling people in all nations, who can hear his voice, to repentance and faith, to become disciples and citizens of the Kingdom of God, in order to teach those around them about God’s love and his way of life.

Daniel 2:20-21 says, “Daniel answered, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his. He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding”

In general the duties of  ambassadors in foreign nations are to maintain a good image of the country they represent in word and deed, and to educate members of the public about their home country. There are also unpaid ambassadors who may represent charities or other community activities.

Colossians 4:2-6 says,  “Continue steadfastly in prayer, watching therein with thanksgiving; praying together for us also, that God may open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds; that I may reveal it as I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

In other words we should pray for peace, order and good government so that we may have freedom of religion and an open door to preach the gospel.

In the context – 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 says, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation. We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: (that is to say) ‘we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God’.”

In summary, Christians are primarily citizens of the Kingdom of God, who live in the world but are not of the world. We are ambassadors of Jesus, whom he has commissioned to teach those around us about the benefits of following Jesus by means of our good conduct and examples.

Personally, I find this information comforting in that it makes it possible for all of us to do evangelistic work by setting and maintaining a good example as we live and work with other people, even though we do not preach in public.
